Where TP-Link TL-SG1218MPE V5 fits
TP-Link's current US V5 specification lists sixteen 802.3af/at gigabit PoE+ ports with up to 30 W per port and a 250 W total budget. That is enough headroom for a typical group of fixed cameras, but high-power PTZs and heaters must be calculated individually.
The CCTV-relevant features are practical: VLANs separate cameras from general users, cable diagnostics shorten fault finding, loop prevention protects a hurried patch change and PoE Auto Recovery can cycle a device that stops responding.
Two additional copper ports and two combo SFP positions make recorder and fibre uplinks easier to plan. Remember that combo ports share interfaces, and SFP modules are a separate compatibility decision.
TP-Link specifies two fans, so this belongs in a cabinet or equipment room rather than a quiet home office. Check the hardware version when buying because older revisions were documented with different total PoE budgets.
A sensible rack switch for medium CCTV systems if Easy Smart management is sufficient and fan noise is acceptable.
