Where Seagate SkyHawk 8TB fits
Seagate's current support data lists the ST8000VX004 as an 8 TB SkyHawk surveillance drive with SATA 6 Gb/s, 256 MB cache, rotational-vibration sensors and a three-year limited warranty.
Eight terabytes gives a small NVR considerably more retention than entry-level pre-installed storage, but the correct duration still comes from measured bitrates. Motion, frame rate, codec and night noise can change daily consumption substantially.
Rotational-vibration sensors matter in multi-bay recorders where several disks influence one another. Keep the recorder ventilated and monitor temperature because sustained heat reduces the useful life of any mechanical drive.
A larger disk concentrates more footage in one device. Important clips need prompt export and verification, while RAID—where available—improves availability but does not protect against deletion, theft or operator error.
A credible high-capacity choice for compatible NVRs, provided heat, vibration and evidence backup are handled properly.
